The Vice Chancellery for Food and Drug of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences supervises, controls, and manages all the following stages: production, distribution, and consumption of food, drug, cosmetics and hygienic products and medical equipment throughout the province. These services are delivered by the Vice Chancellery for Food and Drug  and through its five departments which is described in more details, as the following:

  1. Management of the Supervision of Drug and Controlled Substance Affairs
    -Gaining a 10% share of the total drug production in the country
    -Obtaining the title of the third hub of drug production in the country
    -Supervision of 25 companies producing chemical, natural, traditional, and complementary medicines, 60 pharmaceutical distribution companies, and 900 pharmacies
    -Issuance of certificates for the export of natural, traditional, and complementary medicinal products

 

  1. Management of the Supervision of Food, Beverage, Cosmetic and Hygienic Products
    -Supervision of 820 companies producing food, beverage, cosmetic and hygienic products
    -Issuance of health certificates for the export of food and beverage to neighboring countries, Asia, Europe, and North America
    -Issuance of more than 7,000 health licenses for the production of food, beverage, cosmetic and hygienic products
    -Monitoring on the labels of all food, beverage, cosmetic and hygienic products (nutritional color markers,etc)

     
  2. Management of the Supervision and Assessment of Medical Devices
    -Obtaining the title of the third hub of medical device production in the country
    -Obtaining the title of the first hub of medical textiles production in the country
    -Supervision of more than 100 producing companies and 260 distributing companies and stores and 21 importing companies of medical devices
    -Supervision of the performance of medical engineers in hospitals of the Isfahan province
    and supplying and distributing medical consumables to 60 hospitals and all medical centers affiliated to the university
    -Supervising the production of more than 180 item of medical devices
    -Issuance and renewal of health manufacturing licenses for the manufacture of medical devices
    -Investigation and recording of Medical Device Reports (MDR)

d) Management of Food and Drug Control Laboratory
-Performing food chemistry tests including; instrumental analysis, microbiological, toxicological, molecular PCR and analysis on cosmetic and hygienic products
-Supervision and inspection of associate and manufacturing laboratories
-Control and monitoring of agricultural products in terms of residual pesticides, heavy metals and nitrates
e) Research and Development Department (Office of Supervision and Monitoring of Health-Centered Products)

-Supervision of the Prescribing and Rational Use of Drugs Committee over the process of prescribing drugs
-Exclusive implementation of the provincial plan for Rational Use of Drugs (RUD) in networks and hospitals affiliated to the university
-Investigation and recording of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) and Medication Errors (ME)
-Implementation of drug guidelines, drug integration, and compilation of hospital pharmacopeia
-Informing the public and the medical staff at the Drug and Poisoning
Information Center (DPIC)
