E-learning began about a decade ago at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. The first virtual education course of this university was the MEDLINE web-based educational course offered to medical freshmen in 2005. The university’s E-learning center officially started to work in Medical Education Development Center at the university in 2010. The first virtual course was offered virtually in 2011 with the participation of 178 students. Then, “Virtual Education Center” was established in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2017. The provision of all virtual
education services at the university level and its affiliated units was entrusted to this center. Since its opening, the center has been offering electronic and blended courses to university students and lecturers with the aim of educational and research empowerment. From among the services the Virtual Education Center provides to this organization and its affiliates, we can refer to the following:
- Obtaining the accreditation status from a Virtual University
- Expanding the IT infrastructure in the organization in order to lay the roundwork
for virtual education
- Training specialized intraorganizational manpower in order to implement and
promote virtual education
- Setting up and supporting the university’s e-learning system (LMS; Learning
Management System)
- Developing an e-learning master plan
-Updating curricula to enhance their deliverability in cyberspace
-Launching and offering a variety of virtual education courses, such as Continuing
Medical Education, family physician programs, and other university educational
programs that culminated in the COVID-19 crisis
- Empowering lecturers and students and promoting their motivation in the domain
of virtual education programs
